Chris Elliott and the Rangers on Letterman?

So I get an e-mail newsletter from the Late Show with David Letterman every Monday afternoon, which informs and entertains subscribers with excerpts from past shows and previews of upcoming material. The photo above is from this week's newsletter, offering a hint at something forthcoming having to do with the New York Rangers. If you don't know Chris Elliott, he is a very funny and offbeat guy who has been doing very funny segments on Letterman's show for years. Most times, he comes on the show to give an update on certain, at times inappropriate, aspects of his mostly mundane life, or to talk about well-meaning crusades he has undertaken (often in misdirected and/or embarrassing ways). So I expect whatever take he has on the Rangers to be worth seeing. Ever since we got cable and DVR capability, I have had the Late Show on my list of "record all episodes," so I will be watching with extra anticipation this week.

Lightning play spoiler role well

For a team that's not making the playoffs this year, they certainly seemed to be all over the ice, playing great defense and making the most of their opportunities. Vinnie Lecavalier should get the "C" next year, since current Tampa Bay captain Tim Taylor has announced that he has played his last NHL game.

Caps pull within four points with SO win

Washington Capitals' Alexander Semin (28) tries to move the puck around Carolina Hurricanes' Cam Ward (30) and Glen Wesley (2) during first period of an NHL hockey game in Raleigh, N.C., Tuesday, March 25, 2008. The Capitals won 3-2 in a shoot out. (AP Photo/Karl B DeBlaker)

We were at this game, a hard-fought battle between two teams desperately fighting to stay in the playoff hunt. Ovechkin is impressive. His quick wrister that beat Ward five-hole was sweet (from a Caps perspective). Every once in a while you'll see Flash-animated ads on hockey-related web sites that ask "Who's better? Crosby or Ovechkin?" My opinion has always been that Ovechkin is a much better player all-around, and that opinion was solidified even further on Tuesday night. He has great hands, eyes in the back of his head, and can deliver and take punishing hits. Meanwhile Crosby has been out of the lineup for 23 or so games. More on Crosby later.
